The academic programme at our faculty enjoys an exceptionally
good reputation – one that has received high
honors and recognition.
In 2008, an excellence prize has been awarded to our study
programmes in the "Exzellenzwettbewerb Studium und
Lehre" of the federal state Rhineland-Palatinate.
Moreover, the Deutsche Akademische Austauschdienst (DAAD)
awarded a 2nd prize in the nationwide competition "Beispielhafte
Anerkennung 2013" to the Department of Mathematics
In addition, already five professors of our faculty have been
awarded a federal state teaching prize for teaching
excellence. And, last bot not least, in all german
university rankings since 2003, TU Kaiserslautern has been one
of the top ranking universities in mathematics.
The Department of Mathematics is one of the founding departments
of the University. As with most newly founded universities since
the 1970s, it is not subdivided into institutes and / or chairs.
Units are rather the professorships with their associated
scientific and non-scientific staff. However, some of the units
have joined to form larger working groups (AGs) which are
organized in four main areas of teaching and research:
Apart from that, there are three central units: the dean's office
with the administrative director of the department and further
scientific and non-scientific staff for central scientific
affairs and teaching duties (e.g. lectures for students of other
departments), the Graduate School „Mathematics as a Key
Technology“, as well as the „Kompetenzzentrum für
Mathematische Modellierung in MINT-Projekten in der Schule
(KOMMS)“ with their staff.
